Madeleine Castaing ran an antiques shop on rue Jacob in Paris from the 1940s through the 1980s and decorated houses for Chaim Soutine and Jean Cocteau in a palette of forget-me-not blue, faded chintz, leopard, and Napoleon III curlicue. Her own house at Lèves was the cult pilgrimage.
